Hello! This summer we are offering enrichment opportunities for students who are rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to experience fun and exciting learning for the summer! 

The classes are FREE!

Busing will be provided for those who need it.

Our enrichment opportunities will be offered in-person at Aldo Leopold in two sessions. You can register for one session or both!

Session 1 is  July 5th -15th on Mondays through Thursdays. 
Session 2 is July 19th-29th on Mondays through Thursdays. 

There will be no class on Fridays!

The schedule for those weeks will be:
12:30-1:00 Lunch!

2:00-3:00 Enrichment Course #2

Please take a look at our class descriptions below. You will choose two courses for each session that you plan to attend. You can sign up for one session or both sessions.

Create Your Own Doggy Daycare Business
Create Your Own Dog Business is a real-world math project that gives you the freedom to create and design a dog business. You'll find a location, secure a bank loan, choose equipment, use a blueprint to design different rooms, create and price grooming services, price homemade dog treats, market your business, and more.

Virtual Field Trip: History in the United States and around the World
Venture out on a historical field trip using technology! It's a great way to explore famous heritage sites, geography, and the historical significance of these famous places. In this class we will use amazing videos, virtual field trips, tours, and student-friendly websites related to the historical sites. Explore the world from our classroom!

Greek Mythology 
Students will learn about the legends and myths of the Greek Gods/ Goddesses and heroes and villains! We will look at stories like the mighty Hercules and Medusa and the hair of snakes. At the end of the class students will create a story book with all the legends and myths that we read about. 

American History STEM 
Learn all about some of the major events in American History all while building and creating different STEM projects. We will look at events like the Revolutionary War, Boston Tea Party and the Underground Railroad.

Creative Writing Class
In this class we'll explore writing elements such as plot, character development, dialogue, and descriptive writing to create short stories in the genre of your choice. We will collaborate with each other to get feedback and improve your writing skills

STEM Class
A project-based class, we'll be learning and creating using science, technology, engineering, and math. We will work together to create several projects such as solar oven s'mores, a Newton's cradle, and participate in a space lander mission!

Volleyball
Students will learn and practice basic volleyball skills including serving, passing, setting, and hitting! After we have practiced our skills, we will play some fun volleyball games! During these session, we will be working on collaborating with other students, communicating and 

Calling all Wizards! Join our Harry Potter Book Club!
Do you live, eat, and breathe the magical world that is J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter? Do you often imagine yourself enrolling into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Students will be able to select and read any Harry Potter book of their choice during our HP Lovers Book Club time! In addition, they will participate in a variety of activities surrounding Harry Potter including creative writing, Harry Potter trivia, and book discussion! 

Plan a Dream Vacation, On a Budget
Plan a dream vacation for you and another person to accompany you. You get to pick the destination. The only catch is, you have a budget you have to stick to. Plan your transportation, lodging, food, activities, souvenirs, and more. You will prepare a PowerPoint or Google Slide presentation and plan every aspect of a vacation using a budget of $12,000.

One Choice Can Transform You - Join our Divergent Book Club
Have you ever wondered what traits make you who you are or what faction you fit into?  If these are questions you have, join me for some soul searching and question answering while reading through the first book of the Divergent Series by Veronica Roth!  We will discuss the book periodically throughout this session and complete activities that will help us determine which faction we would be a part of if we were a character in the book.

Co2 Dragster
Do you have a need for speed? Do you like to design? We will be going over the design process and creating co2 dragsters.  Each student will be using design software to design, craft, and race a co2 car.

Design, Prototype, & 3D Print
We will be designing and printing items for practical use in the school and home. You will learn how the design process works and explore the different aspects of 3D Printing.  You will be able to design and print something of your own use to take home.

Intro to Photography

So what does it take to be a great photographer? Skill? Lighting? Being good at photoshop? Let's explore this more, starting with a flashback through photography history, then exploring the “Rule of Thirds”, and finally putting those skills to use with whatever digital camera or phone app you have! Oh, snap!

Gardening Grayhounds! Iowa Landscape
Did you know the landscape of Iowa looked very different than it does today? Come on an adventure, as we learn about different types of prairie grass and flowers, local birds and their habitats, and perhaps get your hands dirty planting and tending various flowers and plants.  Let’s explore the land around us! Do you dig it?

Gourmet Grayhounds! Cooking 101 
Students will learn how to cook different types of food and create a cookbook of things that they can make at home on their own!

Woodworking “Old School”
We will be exploring how students would have built furniture in the past. You  will use hand tools to build a step stool of your own to take home. You will understand and will be able to use such hand tools as Hammer, saw, Brace and bit, rasp, and files. This is hands on from start to finish.

Robot Coding, “Beat The clock”
This is a beginners class for coding. We will be using Lego mindstorm to go through certain challenges. You will learn basic block programming while having your robot perform certain tasks.
